Welcome to the Traditional Shotokan Karate-do Federation (TSKFA) website. The TSKFA is a Shotokan based and not for profit karate organization that is following the original teachings of the founder Gichin Funakoshi and the late Master Nakayama.

The TSKFA truly believes that the #1 principle 'Never forget that karate begins and ends with respect" should be followed at all times. We also promote strong moral principles, traditional ettiquette and the encouragement of goodwill and harmony among all kareteka.

TSKFA invites other like-minded Shotokan groups to join with our members to participate in any of our events and also participate in training seminars conducted by Takahashi Shihan. Interested groups should contact the Office of TSKFA, or the TSKFA Dojo Head in your region to obtain dates, venues and training times when Shihan will be visiting.

2012 - National Competition

The 2012 National Competition and training seminar was held at the Gold Coast from the 19th-24th March and with about 200 competitors, it was the largest since the formation of TSKFA. The seminar consisted of 3 days of training instructed by Shihan Takahashi and Yaguchi Sensei  then followed by 2 days of competition.

Special Thanks

We were honored to Yaguchi Sensei (ISKF Vice-Chief Instructor) attend our 2012 National event and hope that he and others from ISKF be able to attend future events.

Runcorn Heights Dojo

TSKF Australia is very pleased and proud to announce the opening of yet another Brisbane Dojo, being TSKF Runcorn Heights, under the guidance of Koki Tokano Sensei. Congratulations Koki, we know you will build a fantastic dojo and be an excellent Dojo Instructor.

40 Years of Dedication

In this day and age, a permanent commitment of 40 years to anything, whether it be a marriage, partnership, or job, is very rare. This year we celebrate 40 years of commitment and dedication by Professor Shunsuke Takahashi (OAM), known to us as Takahashi Shihan, of coming to Australia from Japan to share his knowledge of Shotokan karate. This is indeed a fantastic feat, given that he gives up his vacation time from the Komozawa University in Tokyo, twice a year for two months, without fail, to enable our members to train and grade under his guidance.

It was in 1972, that Takahashi Shihan first came to Australia, bringing his wife and children, to settle in Brisbane for two years, teaching karate and establishing a technical and organisational core of members to advance the Australian Shotokan Karate Association, later to become the Japan Karate Association of Australia, and as recently as 2009, to become the Traditional Shotokan Karate-do Federation of Australia, TSKFA, as we know it today.
